Millicent L. Knight, O.D.
Dr. Knight is the owner of the North Shore Eye Center located in Evanston, Illinois. She began her optometric career in a unique hospital based ophthalmology/optometry private practice. She specialized in pre and post-operative patient care, trauma management, diabetes and glaucoma patient education, and contact lens designs. She continues to focus in these areas.
Dr. Knight has held many appointed and elected positions in Optometry and in her community. She has been active in the National Optometric Association (NOA), the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Illinois Optometric Association (IOA) Dr. Knight served as a National Board Examiner and Assistant Chief Board Examiner for candidates seeking licensure to practice Optometry in Illinois. She served on the Illinois Licensing and Disciplinary Committee for the State Board of Optometry.
Dr. Knight was selected “Young Optometrist of the Year” in 1997 by the Illinois Optometric Association and “Optometrist of the Year” in 1999 by the National Optometric Association. She was appointed to the National Advisory Council of the National Eye Institutes. On this council she reviewed eye related research grants and made recommendations on their funding. She has consulted for research organizations in contact lenses and low vision. Dr. Knight was featured in the Today’s Chicago Woman magazine as one of the 100 women in Chicago making a Difference.
Dr. Knight has worked with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) and Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) volunteering for eye care missions with optometrists and ophthalmologists throughout Central and South America. Dr. Knight was granted a Kellogg National Leadership Fellowship and has traveled extensively addressing national and international leadership issues.
Currently, Dr. Knight is serving on the Board of Trustees at both the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO), and Augustana College, her alma maters. She is an adjunct preceptor of practice management for ICO and UAB School of Optometry . Dr. Knight has made guest appearances on eye/health care for both radio and television programs, and is published in professional journals. Dr. Knight lives in Evanston with her husband, Harvey L. Echols, MD and their son. She has been in practice for over 20 years.

Kristie J. Charles, O.D.
Dr. Charles hails from Green Bay, WI. She attended University of Wisonsin, LaCrosse, earning her undergraduate degree in Biology, with a medical emphasis. She then attended the Illinois College of Optometry, earning her Doctorate of Optometry degree. During her clinical rotations, she traveled around the United States including Alaska, Kentucky and Rhode Island completing her training in diagnosis and management of ocular disease (glaucoma, diabetic eye care and cataracts). Upon her completion of studies, she was retained in private practice. Dr. Charles was involved with the VOSH program, as a supporting volunteer for eye missions in Honduras.
Dr. Charles is a current member of the Illinois Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
In her spare time, Dr. Charles enjoys the outdoors and both national and international travel. In 2008, she competed in the Wisconsin Ironman Triathalon.
Desiree V. Carrillo, O.D.
Dr. Carrillo was raised in Evanston, IL. She completed her undergraduate degree at Michigan State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology with an emphasis in pre-optometry. She went on to attend the Illinois College of Optometry where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree. Dr. Carrillo completed her clinical rotations in Delaware, California, and Illinois; concluding her training in pediatrics and binocular vision, diagnosing and managing ocular disease and contact lenses on the clinical Dean’s list. Dr. Carrillo enjoys volunteering her time and has traveled to Honduras with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH).
Dr. Carrillo is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the National Optometric Association. She also conducts examinations in Spanish. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, camping, photography and spending time with her two dogs. |

Leon E. Rondenet, O.D. Emeritus
Dr. Rondenet has been in private practice for over 50 years. He is a graduate of the Northern Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Rondenet has enjoyed providing the eye care needs for generations of family members. He is an expert with difficult refractive cases, and enjoys providing contact lens fittings for adults and children. Dr. Rondenet is a long time member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association. He has provided indigent eye care services for the Lions club, and supports the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness. As many of you know, Dr. Rondenet is an avid golfer, and enjoys recreational fishing. Dr. Rondenet has been married to Mary Rondenet for 59 years. They have four children.

Jesse H. Melchor, Operations Manager
Jesse's experience in the banking, health care and claims management industries has prepared him for his operations role here at North Shore Eye Center. Jesse oversees day to day business activities, information technology lead, supports our front area operations, performs special projects, marketing, lead event coordinator, coordinates building management with John and produces our Practice Newsletter and website. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys spending time with his family, reading, writing, tennis, walking and cooking. |

John Rondenet, Lab Technician and Property Manager
John processes prescription lenses for eyeglass frames onsite and also oversees our property and building maintenance, security and safety protocols. John is Dr. Leon Rondenet's son.

Our Staff
Michel Uribe, Dispensary Manager and Lead Optician
Michele oversees and coordinates our vision product dispensary processes. She has over a decade of experience in frame styling and expert contact lens training for all ages. She is fluent in Spanish and her interests include fashion and design.

Bridgette Diaz, Front Area Manager
Bridgette manages our front area. She coordinates scheduling, orders office and pharmaceutical inventories, works on special projects, accounts payable and receivable and is our VSP lead for billing and inquiries. She also supports our vision product dispensary, contact lens insertion and removal training and pre-examination procedures. Bridgette enjoys physical fitness and is currently pursing her certification as an ophthalmic technician.
Adele Strand, Ophthalmic Technician and Optician
Adele performs pre-examination testing on all patients. In addition, she supports diagnostic testing for our doctors. She is also our lead for contact lens education and inventory and also provides support to our dispensary and front desk.
Adele enjoys spending time with her family. |

Tonya Thomas-White, Medical Billing and Patient Care Advocate
Tonya is our billing coordinator responsible for processing patient medical and vision insurance services. She keeps abreast of evolving medical industry processes. She also performs financial audits and is our lead contact for Medicaid inquiries.
